It was an emotional day at Memorial School today as the staff and students turned out to say a special goodbye to Mrs. Rickershauser who is retiring. The video below certainly sums up how the Memorial School community feels about their departing leader.
Finally, here is the touching letter that Mrs. R. shared on her blog today:
June 25, 2013Dear Memorial Families,
As you know, today is my last official day here at Memorial School. I am retiring to spend more time with my own children and grandchild, all living in the Austin, Texas area. Excited as I am to head off to Texas, I have so loved my time at Memorial! Thank you all for helping to make these years such special ones, and for supporting our efforts to help your children to learn and grow in both mind and heart.Hard as it is to leave, it will be a bit easier knowing that our school is in very good hands (and many of them!). Teachers and staff who care, families who are active participants in that all important home/school partnership, a PTO committed to supporting our school and helping to build a strong school ‘Family,’ a Superintendent and Central Office who support the many good things happening at Memorial and throughout the district, and last but not least, the Memorial children themselves — TeRRiFCC kids who know that learning to be a responsible citizen and caring friend is as important as learning about their world and developing their skills.Deb Dressler, our new principal, visited us several times, and in that short time, has noticed that “something special” about Memorial that we all cherish. Mrs. Dressler is very much looking forward to becoming part of the Memorial Family. She will be in touch with you over the summer. I know you will welcome her as Memorial welcomed me eight short years ago.
Please know I will be thinking about my Memorial Family as I move on to the next ‘season of my life.’ With heartfelt gratitude, warmest regards, and great affection,Karen Rickershauser (aka Mrs. R.)
