Dear Burlington Parents,
I’d like to ask all of you to help with publicizing this week’s Basic Rights Presentation. Attendance at our meetings has fallen over the last year (mostly my fault for not being as active as I once was.) The PAC can be a vital force in helping parents help their children succeed. Children whose parents are involved in their school succeed at a level far and beyond those whose parents are not. The PAC aims to give parents a voice and the knowledge to use that voice intelligently and cooperatively to help their children. The Basic Rights Presentation is the foundation of the knowledge that parents need to advocate for their children.
The request that I have is for everyone on this list to call five people that you know and spread the word. I know that these presentations work, that parents have been successful when they use the strategies that they learn at this presentation and that student’s outcomes have improved from their parents’ involvement in their school careers. The help I ask of you is minimal. The benefit to families is great.
The Basic Rights Presentation will be held this Wednesday, October 20 in the School Committee Room at Burlington High School 123 Cambridge St. The presentation will begin at 7:00 P.M. but the room will open at 6:30 for parents to socialize, network and generally get to know each other. Parents of kids who struggle with various areas of life often feel isolated. It doesn’t have to be that way. We can help each other through difficult situations. Please join us on Wednesday.
