This week is an exciting milestone in the process to build a New Memorial School. Over the past two weeks we have opened bids from subcontractors.
General Contractors closely examine the bids from subcontractors to formulate an overall project estimate. General Contractors do not need to select the least expensive subcontractor. A more expensive subcontractor bid; however, may jeopardize the General Contractor losing the overall contract over price.
The next step occurs on this Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM when we open bids from the General Contractors. This bid opening is a public meeting. Essentially, we will see on Thursday whether General Contractors estimate that they can build the New Memorial School as designed for the money we have budgeted. The Memorial Building Committee will forward a recommended General Contractor to the School Committee for final approval.
Once the School Committee signs a contract with a General contractor, then school project becomes tangible to me. I am looking forward to Thursday afternoon.
