Has there been any thought to putting a green roof on the building? Or the High School’s, given that it seems to be in constant repair?

Thank you for your comment. We asked the Design Team to look at this possible option at the new Memorial School. The technology does not appear to be cost effective in regards to this project at this time.

Selecting a “Green or Living Roof” is more complicated than just installation. The structural engineer must change load calculations and the architect must configure access and safety issues into his design. As such the replacement of the BHS roof is moving forward without consideration of a “green roof.” We are installing new insulation under the new roof membrane which should make the facility more energy efficient.

The Memorial School design has limited flat roof area and a majority of this will house HVAC equipment and chillers. Other parts of the project will be looked at in regards to improving the environmental impact of the building. One example is using a cistern to capture rain water for flushing toilets.
