Guest Post by Joanne Faust our Human Resource Director
This past Monday, school employees were invited to attend a Wellness Fair, hosted by our Human Resources Department. The fair included screenings for blood pressure, bone density, glucose, cholesterol, body fat analysis, and sun damage. Many local gyms and wellness centers were represented, as well as several Town departments. Our employees received information on many wellness-related topics such as: nutrition, acupuncture, child safety seats, fire prevention, flu shots, and smoking cessation. The most popular exhibitor seemed to be the chair massage, which provided employees with a 10-minute seated massage. Those folks worked non-stop!
Monday also kicked off our employee walking program, named Walktober. Over 100 school employees have signed up for this 5-week program and received pedometers to track their steps. The program is designed to encourage employees to walk more throughout their day. Rather than making it a competition, prizes will be awarded through a random drawing from all employees who submit their activity logs, so anyone can win, not only our “super walkers”.
These programs were put in place to encourage our employees to think about adding more healthy activities into their daily routines. The ultimate goal is to provide ways for our employees to be healthy and in turn to feel healthy.
A huge “thank you” to Mr. Larkin for allowing us to have the Wellness Fair in the High School, as well as to all others involved in setting up the fair, for such a successful event!
