New Educator Evaluation Requirements

A component of the state’s successful Race to the Top (RTTT) application requires changes to the evaluation process for administrators and teachers. The details of the regulations are evolving, but the time-line is clear. The following links were provided to districts to help provide some clarity to the upcoming changes.

College Board Recognizes BHS

Burlington High School made College Board’s 2nd Annual Honor Roll. Please read Mr. Larkin’s blog for more details. Congratulation to the administration and faculty at BHS for their continued focus on improving student achievement. While we often experience all that our students accomplish locally, it is great to receive some recognition from outside groups.

The Burlington Public Schools is opening a new preschool classroom.

Where: The program is located around the back of Burlington High School

When: The classroom will open on Monday November 8^th 2011.

Days: The program will run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Time: 8:30 to 11:30

Cost: The cost is $232.00 per month.

Dear School Community,

The Burlington PAC will host our annual Basic Rights Presentation on Wednesday October 12, 2011 in the School Committee Room in the rear of the Burlington High School at 123 Cambridge St. in Burlington. The meeting will begin at 6:30 P.M. with time for people to meet and become familiar with our group. The Basic Rights Presentation will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Donna Murphy from the FCSN as presenter. Donna does a great job with this speaking engagement and always has tremendous advice for parents, both new to the world of special ed and to those of us who have been around the block a few times. Please make time to attend this event if you want to know how to advocate for your child. Feel free to email or call with any questions about this presentation or the PAC.

Boil Water Order Ended

All Consumers of the Town of Burlington Water are hereby advised that the Boil Water Order has ended.

Please Flush All Taps for at least 5 minutes. Flush your household and building water lines including: interior and exterior faucets, showers, water or ice dispensers, and water treatment units.

Water heaters may need to be flushed to remove any contaminated water. Some types of water treatment devices may need to be disinfected or replaced before being used. Check with the manufacturer for details.

Shawsheen Tech Opens New Health and Life Science Wing

Shawsheen Superintendent, Charlie Lyons, welcomed students, parents, teachers, and other guests to the opening of the new health and life science wing at Shawsheen Tech. The facility was impressive and adds to the opportunities at Shawsheen for Burlington students. Charlie was recognized for his vision of creating an educational space that reflects present and future needs in the Massachusetts economy.

In Charlie’s words: “The state-of-the-art addition was made possible by an investment of $4.5 million with 56% state funded, and it reflects our district’s continued commitment to ensure students are trained for jobs that have excellent employment opportunities in the 21st century economy.”

Charlie’s heartfelt comments focused on the students and teachers who will bring the facility to life. We are lucky to have two high quality high schools available for Burlington students.
